ASTELCO's operating software AsTelOS (Astelco Telescope Operation System) is a genuine development. ASTELCO's software engineers have decade-long experience in telescope control. The result: AsTelOS is unsurpassed in performance, upgradeability, functionality and stability in every day operation and therefore ensures optimum usage of the telescope. On top of that, AsTelOS offers easy accessibility for implementation of customer-specific applications.

The control system consists of multiple layers for easy maintenance
and extendibility. All commands and data between the layers are being
exchanged using openTPL (open transfer protocol language). It features
secure connections (SSL/TLS) and authentication, information about
errors with asynchronous EVENT messages, and generic server and client
library which can easily be used in free-defined user applications.
AsTelOS incorporates low-level hardware-controlling software, mid-level
control code and top-level astronomical algorithms.
The low-level control software includes a power management system (stabilization of voltage and current; handling of power failures) and runs on a professional Real-Time Linux-based computer in the control cabinet.

3. Servicing the software |

In case of servicing issues, ASTELCO's software engineers are available almost every day to perform a remote-access analysis of the situation and offer a solution in the quickest possible way. Multiple-layer internal software journals allow a very fast determination of error sources even by remote-access. Customer-oriented error handling has never been easier!

Due to the open architecture of AsTelOS, interfacing it to outside "components" is very easy. Interfacing can be done to weather stations, computerized domes or enclosures of any kind or special instrumentation. Communication can be in both ways, from AsTelOS to the outside component and vice-versa.
